Nick Sumner and the Assistance "Look Out Below"

Artist Spotlight:

New York based band Nick Sumner & the Assistance are comprised of three members who all bring different elements to their 90s grunge rock sound. Their latest release “Look Out Below” finds the band tackling dense subject matters coiled in wistful riddles sauntering over power chords and rhythmic drums.

The baseline, build up, and drums fills are exhilarating to say the least, but the lyrics literally would take a keen listeners breath away. The melody would prompt any casual fan to push replay. The performance delivered by the guitarist is stellar gifting the listener with a cool riff that stands as the climax of the song. The lead singer sings “ Look out below, we’re coming in fast, every breath borrowed could be our last”. delivering a vocal performance comparable to your favorite 90s leads from Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, or Oasis. The drummer reels you in from the opening measure with a captivating bounce.

“Look Out Below” is refreshing. A momentous single that evokes a hint of nostalgia, offering poignant lyrics and parables that can subjectively be digested by each listener differently, depending on your point of reference. This momentous recording is fitting for a 90s or 2000s classic romantic drama or comedy. A must listen and highly recommended by me. I give this 4 cds!
