Ripper and the Jesses “Velociraptor of Love”

The Regina, Saskatchewan, Canadian band Ripper and the Jesses are comprised of 3 members Russ (Drums/Vocals), Aaron (Vocals Guitar), Kalen Bass/Vocals). Their latest EP released on  August 15th, 2019 titled “Velociraptor of Love” is defiant, energetic and explosive. This album is mired in retribution yet delineates a sense of content. The songwriting is honest, unabashedly scathing with a tad of vulnerability. Sonically the instrumentation is profound and employed by adept musicians.

Invigorating a core sound that propelled bands like Green Day the composite allotted the Saskatchewan band are traits desired by all punk rock aficionados. The lead Aaron displays conviction, approaches tracks with a seasoned delivery, and a vocal presence that’s magnetic. Russ is an adroit drummer, and his talent is radiantly displayed on this album with stellar drum breaks and fills throughout. Kaleb excels on the bass creating remarkable moments, most notably during bridge sections and beat breakdowns.

“Velociraptor of Love” is devoid of compassion, but wrought with retribution. This album is a direct conversational piece set to address unresolved emotional feelings experienced immediately post relationship. The stand out tracks on this EP are “Can Halen”, and “California City” both tracks are rich in spellbinding riffs and harmonies. Evidently this group’s aim is to devour love and mince it into oblivion. This album is a throughly enjoyable listen, especially for those fresh off of a relationship. This group is punk rock personified offering an outlet to express your passion towards love or lack thereof.
